ABOUT SURGERY

Tummy Tuck surgery, also known as Abdominoplasty, is a major cosmetic surgery procedure for women and men which removes excess skin, tightens separated muscles and removes fat from the abdomen. Women who have experienced pregnancy, and both menand women who have sustained significant and rapid weight loss, are the most usual patients for tummy tuck surgery. 

The Tummy Tuck surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, and it takes around 2–3 hours. The surgeon will cut your abdomen from hipbone to hipbone and then contour the skin, tissue, and muscle as needed. The surgery will involve moving your belly button, and you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days.

 

Mini-tummy tuck are often done on people whose fat deposits are located below the navel. This surgery flattens the abdomen by removing extra fat and skin, and tightening muscles in your abdominal wall. It’s not the same as liposuction, although you may choose to get liposuction along with a tummy tuck to get the better result. Your surgeon will separate muscles and tight them with special stitches. After that is done a new opening is cut on the abdominal wall to transfer your belly button, which is sutured into its new place.

How to prepare for Tummy Tuck Surgery

  • Complete abdominoplasty. The surgeon will cut your abdomen from hipbone to hipbone and then contour the skin, tissue, and muscle as needed. The surgery will involve moving your belly button, and you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days.

  • Partial or mini abdominoplasty. Mini-abdominoplasties are often done on people whose fat deposits are located below the navel. During this procedure, the surgeon most likely will not move your belly button, and the procedure may only take up to two hours, depending on your case.​

Post Surgery. After a tummy tuck, abdominal incision will be covered with surgical dressing. You’ll likely feel moderate pain, which will be controlled by pain medication. It’s normal to have swelling in the surgical area for about six weeks.

For the first six weeks after a tummy tuck, you’ll need to take care when moving and avoid positions that strain your incision line — such as quickly bending at the waist — to prevent the reopening of the wound.
